How do we represent Jesus in our lives and neighborhoods?

Join our countdown to Christmas as many of us read the book Unwrapping The Names of Jesus, which is our Advent devotional guide. You can then put some practice to what is being preached in reaching out to our neighbors under the direction of the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Alpha and Omega, and Immanuel! Answer questions for yourself like “Why did Jesus come?” or “Is Christmas unbelievable?” and pray over those in your neighborhood, workplace, or school and ask God how He would have you serve them this Christmas. Like our Advent devotional book says, “What if you could spend this Christmas season delighting in your Savior instead of trying to create a picture-perfect holiday?”

As we mature in our Christian walk we are to be Growing in Christ, Rooted in Scripture, and Making Disciples, and we must realize that our lives are not going to be picture-perfect. Likewise, our neighbors may not be having a picture-perfect season either. Be encouraged by several tools listed below that can help you reach out to your neighbors in a kind and loving way.

Making Disciples by way of neighboring doesn’t have to be one more thing to find time to do during a busy holiday season. Neighboring can fit into the natural rhythm of your life! Instead of being something extra to add, intentional neighboring is something to include in the activities you’re already doing such as time spent with your family, your Small Group, or your Bible Fellowship. Based off of Colossians 3:16-17, consider writing cards to neighbors or going caroling using The Ultimate Guide to Organizing Christmas Caroling!

Here at East White Oak we are praying that our church body has an outgoing and evangelistic response to Unwrapping The Names of Jesus.

See Colossians 3:16-17 which says, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Consider these two following Local Outreach opportunities this holiday season based off of Colossians 3:16-17!

How can you use your WORDS to Make Disciples = You can write Cards and provide Gospel Resources to your Neighbors!

  • Invite friends and neighbors to our Christmas Concert using our printed cards
  • Gather around and send Holiday cards (whether bought or homemade) to 10-20 of your closest neighbors. The new neighbor on the block would really be delighted to hear from you! Leave the greeting name blank if you don’t know their names, but be sure to put your address, name, contact info, and the reason for the card.
  • Share with your neighbors your love for Jesus and the great opportunity we get to celebrate His birth this Christmas. Your card could have a Christmas theme with your favorite Bible verse or words to a Christmas Carol.
  • Encourage them to reach out to you this holiday season or anytime over the next several months if they have any needs.
  • The Postal Service frowns on putting mail or items in other mailboxes. It is best to mail your card or hand deliver them during caroling. The card could be put in a gift bag with a pre-packaged treat, hung on the door, or left on the step.

How can you use your DEEDS to Make Disciples = You can go Caroling!
