My name is Liberty Schurter and I’m 12 years old.

The Lord saw fit to give me two older brothers; Isaac and Judah, and two younger brothers; Boaz and Caleb. These boys are the love and bane of my existence. But He was also gracious to give me my best friend and younger sister, Eden! I dearly love my family and being home educated.

My parents, Luke and Susanne, give me lots of experiences in life where I’m challenged to grow and build endurance including horseback riding, hiking, and camping. You haven’t really lived until you’ve tried to cook dinner on top of a mountain in rain and hail while the tent is blowing over the cliff! I love adventuring with my family! There are always lots of opportunities to trust God, especially when things don’t go as we expect! One of those situations happened in my own backyard.

Playing with my brothers and sister, I snagged my wrist running by a tree where a birdhouse wire was hanging out of sight. Usually, my parents just patch us up and send us back outside! But this was the most serious injury any of us kids have ever had. My Dad said, “Liberty, I’m taking you to visit my friends in the E.R.” (My Dad is a firefighter/paramedic.)

This was during the pandemic. Only one parent was allowed in the emergency room. I love my Dad, but I was scared and wanted Mom to be with me, too! As Dad drove me to the hospital, I remember praying, asking Jesus to help me. Fourteen stitches later, I was back home to recover. God had been with me and would continue to be throughout those weeks of healing. The plastic surgeon was amazed I never once had even a hint of infection.

I surrendered my life to Jesus three years before this accident. I knew I was a sinner and needed a Savior. I was baptized last year and continue to grow and mature in my relationship with God. I love learning Bible verses in Truth & Training and my Bible Fellowship.

Psalm 90:2 “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God.”

Liberty Schurter is the twelve year old daughter of Luke & Susanne. The Schurter family live in Normal and have called East White Oak home since January 2023. Liberty loves caring for her family and enjoys a variety of activities including arts and crafts, reading, piano, helping in the kitchen, and memorizing Scripture.
